I Needed to Fix the Automatic Shut-off
In this post and video, I will show how to fix the automatic shut-off, and also the wick adjuster, of a kerosene heater. In my last blog post and video(link at the bottom), I covered how to clean out a Kero World KW-11F Kerosene Heater after leaving a kerosene and water mixture in it for a year. I put it all back together and thought I did a great job. The problem was that when I went to use it, some important parts did not work. On a cold 27 degrees day in November of 2020, I finally decided to really fix my heater.
Read the Manual to Prevent Problems
Because I didn’t have the hard copy of my Owner’s Manual on hand and did not check online for it, I took things apart that I did not need to. I unscrewed the automatic shut-off device and this messed up the wick adjuster mechanism. I just found the manual online. The manual does not tell me how to fix the automatic shut-off and the wick adjuster. It can be found at this link. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/683471/Kero-World-Kero-World-Kw-11f.html#manual
Names of Some Parts
Since I didn’t read the manual, I did not name the parts correctly in the following video. The wick holder is the round cylinder that the wick snaps into. This and the wick fit over the cartridge tank. The directions show lifting the holder up partway to attach the wick adjuster mechanism. I found it is easier to attach it before it is put on the cartridge tank. I do it both ways in the video. It can be very awkward to get it on. I also did not know the name of the door of the heater. It is called a protective front grill.
Watch the Video
In the video, I show how I figured out how to fix the automatic shut-off and the wick adjuster mechanism. You may be thinking that you don’t have a kerosene heater and do not need to watch this video. Even though you do not have one now, you never know when you might be able to help a friend. This video will also give you the courage to tackle any puzzle of something that needs to be fixed. Remember to never give up and if you run out of wisdom, remember to pray and ask God for that wisdom that you lack. He helped me and He will help you too.
Results for the Winter
At the end of the video, I carried my heater into my motorhome. I want you all to know that this has been my best winter ever. It has been so nice to use my motorhome as an office and to be toasty warm. The smaller heater can work for several days and it cut my heating expenses this winter. I am so glad that I took the time to fix my kerosene heater.
