I hadn’t planned on adopting a Manx kitten. Six cats were already in my care. This post is how Bobby came to join our family.

Wishful Thinking

My sister-in-law had a pretty cat with a target on her side. I foolishly mentioned that if her pregnant cat had a kitten with the target, I would want it. It was just wishful thinking. I didn’t need another cat. At this time, June 2016, I already had six cats, from oldest to youngest: Pebbles, Wolfy, Columbus, Rory, Kika, and Freya. They were all neutered.

My First Manx Kitten

When the kittens were born, I received a call informing me that one of them looked just like their mother. My sister-in-law was counting on me to give this kitten a home. She also said that it didn’t have a tail. Looking on the bright side, I had never had a Manx kitten and this would be my first one. I decided to adopt him.

There will be a video at the end of this post.

Adopting A Manx Kitten

When the kitten was eight weeks old, I drove to Happy Valley to adopt him. I felt bad taking him from his mother, feeling that surely he would be crying in my car on the way to my homestead in French Gulch. He didn’t cry at all. It was as if he were on some great adventure. What would happen when I introduced him to the other cats?

Manx Kitten Adopted into the cat family

Adopted By The Cat Family

When the Manx kitten was introduced to the rest of the cats, he walked over to them without fear. He was initially repulsed, but he remained confident and was so sweet that they couldn’t resist loving him back. Above, you see Wolfy and Freya with him. If you have read my other stories in my Pets Category, you will know that Wolfy is good at mothering kittens. Here is the link for when he mothered Columbus, Rory, and Kika. Wolfy Replaces Heshe

Above is another photo of Freya with the kitten. She was happy to adopt him. You can also see the target on his side really well in this picture. Freya even had a great time playing with him, as you can see below.

Naming The Manx Kitten

This kitten needed a name, so I asked my daughter, Ivana, for some help. Some ideas were Target or Bullseye, but they didn’t sound right for such a cute kitten. Next, I suggested that we go by his tail and consider him as a little bobcat. I suggested Bobby for his bobtail, and she suggested something else that I didn’t like.  So, I said it was going to be Bobby.

My daughter enjoyed playing with Bobby as you can see below and in the video at the end of this post.

Bobby Joins the Cat Family

Above, you can see Bobby meeting Columbus, and below, he is meeting Kika. His bold and loving personality made him immediately accepted by them all.

Watch the Video

The video shows Bobby’s first days outside and my daughter playing with him. He was so tiny and cute. I was happy that the other cats accepted him so fast.
