On April 22, 2020, I worked on adding small branches and twigs to my hugel kultur bed. If you don’t know what that is, feel free to go back and read and watch my earlier posts on this subject. I show in the video the progress of the day. Most of the branches that were scattered about on the ground got lopped with the loppers and added to the hugel kultur bed. In my video introduction, I said it was Tuesday and then I found out that it was actually Wednesday. Because of the COVID-19 lockdown, I was staying home alone working on my blog and on my garden. I must admit that I was getting pretty lonely. I missed going to work as a Physical Therapist Assistant and spending my day talking with staff and patients. Now, I was alone with my thoughts, nature, and nature’s God. I maintained my sanity by keeping in touch with family and friends on Facebook and by phone. Watch the video below to see my progress.
On April 23, 2020, I went to town and stopped by Home Depot to get a needed item and found out that I had to wait in a long line. Only a certain number of people could be in the store at one time. I wore my mask because I thought it was required. Once inside, people seemed leery of each other. We had to keep our “social distance.” I wondered at the limit of 100 in the building at a time. If you passed a person in the aisle, you were going to be closer than 6 feet.
I told you I was getting lonely, so I looked forward to going to town to have some interaction with people. I was saddened by the masks on almost everyone. I fought back tears at my heightened loneliness. Was this to be the new normal? I was concerned by being laid off and I hadn’t received the stimulus check yet. As it turned out, I received my stimulus check and my first unemployment check within two days of each other. That was such a relief. In the days ahead, I started looking for something to do that would give me more human interaction and I chose to work for Postmates, Roadie, and later Door Dash. The profit is small, but it gives me something to do so I can have that human interaction and take a break from the physical labor at home. Because of COVID-19, I don’t get much interaction from the customers that say, “Leave at my door” but there is a nice interaction with the restaurant workers and some fellow Door Dashers that I have met.
