About Me

Hi!  I am Tamara Luevano.  I was born in Lakewood, CA and raised in Long Beach, CA by my father, who was a commissioner in family law and my mother, who was a general surgeon and burn specialist.  I had an early love for animals and especially horses.  I wanted to have a farm.  When I was 7, they bought 7 acres in Fallbrook, CA and I got my first taste of buying raw land and homesteading on it.  I much preferred the country to the city.  I will probably be sharing some of this part of my life because it all prepared me for the life I live now.  Because of my love for animals, I wanted to be a veterinarian and ended up becoming a vet assistant and then a vet technician instead.  This has given me the experience needed for sharing with you how I keep my vet bills down and don’t rush to the vet for every little thing.  I also had some wildlife experience at a place called the Wild Animal Training Center.  I have a B.S. degree in Biology/Zoology and went on to get an A.S. degree for Physical Therapist Assistant which I have been doing since 1992.  I love working in skilled nursing with the older generation teaching the importance of exercise to get regain strength after illness or surgery.
I am a Seventh-day Adventist Christian and doing God’s will is a strong motivator in my life.  I have been greatly blessed by the Bible and the writings of Ellen G. White.  Her counsels on the importance of country living and the need to be out of the cities when the judgments of God begin to fall upon the cities have motivated me to pray to be out of the city and I believe that my prayers were answered in a miraculous way.  I currently live on a 332 acres property in beautiful French Gulch, CA.  I started from scratch with my husband, Gary at the time, and my 2 teenagers, Isaiah and Ivana.    Eventually, the children turned 18 and moved to the city and I split with my husband.  I am on my own and have learned many things on how to homestead off-grid.
What has motivated me to start a blog?  Over 3 years ago, my daughter’s boyfriend, Greg, suggested that I do it.  Great idea!  Yeah sure!  In my spare time.  Right?  I didn’t seem to have any spare time.  I had a commute of 40 to 50 minutes.  I was working long days.  I have to do everything on the property myself.  What has changed?  Well, I have been moving along slowly as I can afford it, to move towards getting things on this property permitted.  I live in a metal building that is 1000 square feet and two stories tall.  It has a toilet, washer and drier which leave me very spoiled from how we started out.  I use my motor home for cooking, kitchen sink, and shower.  It is my goal to get this home built as soon as possible, for God has laid it on my heart to be a foster parent.  I am getting the engineering done now, and need to be able to pay for permits and for the building project.
I am 56 years old at the time of this writing and in great shape to be able to climb up the mountain on a regular basis to maintain my spring-fed water system. I have learned many health principles from the health books written by Ellen White such as The Ministry of Healing and Counsels on Diet and Foods.  I eat a healthy vegan diet and exercise regularly.  I am working on getting more sleep.  I have studied health and natural remedies and put them to use with my family.  I will be sharing some recipes with you that were favorites of my children.
I also sing and write scripture songs, and know how to play the piano, accordion, and flute.  Photography is a favorite hobby I enjoy.  I am so looking forward to writing this blog and sharing my life with you.  I am hoping that I can increase my income with blogging and be able to work less, so I will be able to have time to spend with my future foster children.  I thank you ahead of time for supporting this endeavor by purchasing items on my site.  I appreciate you all so much.  God bless you.
